Service at a Young Age
American Montessori Society features Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton’s preschool program.
With the help of parent volunteers, preschool and kindergarten children created 92 handmade wooden-bead necklaces with glass lockets as part of a community action initiative. The students then sold the necklaces, called Heartbeads, raising $2,400 toward full tuition for 16 students at the Sacred Heart Primary School, in Uganda. The students were able to see a video of the children in this school and identify ways in which their school lives are the same and different.
