    • Student at Stevens Library
SHS houses two comprehensive libraries - one for the students, faculty, staff of the P-8 division, and one for those at SHP. Library staff seek to promote a lifelong love of learning and reading through a variety of diverse resources and mediums.

Beginning with basic information literacy instruction, the librarians encourage intellectual curiosity and critical thinking, which enhance the array of complex skills students need to live, learn, and work successfully in a global community.

  • Stevens Family Library (P-8)

Centrally located on the P-8 campus, Stevens Library has a large selection of books and offers weekly scheduled classes for read-aloud /storytelling sessions and lessons in library and research skills. The librarians work with faculty to complement classroom activities and studies in order to enhance the intellectual opportunities and academic resources available to each student.
Stevens Library is open to students for study, research, homework, and reading before school, during school under teacher direction and librarian availability, and to Middle School students after school.

Additionally throughout the school year, Stevens Library plays host to a number of special events for students, including author and illustrator talks, special read-alouds, and an annual spring Book Fair. In recent years, evening events have also taking place at the library, including a "Atherton Mayor Reads" bedtime stories and hot cocoa event for young students, and performance by Bob Baker Marionette Theater.

Recent author visits include Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver, Tui Sutherland, Mac Barnett, Matt de la Pena, Oliver Chin, Kate T. Parker, and Mina Javaherbin, among many others.

The LMS campus’ real-time energy production and consumption appears on an interactive screen, located in the library and can be tracked online via the LMS Campus’ energy efficiency building dashboard.
  • Lucas Family Library (SHP)

The Lucas Family Library welcomes all learners, and teaches information literacy for grades 9-12 via a coherent program that emphasizes the development of the higher-order thinking skills essential to the process of locating, evaluating, and ethically using information within an academic context. The librarians work collaboratively with faculty to ensure that information resources and concrete research skills for students are introduced, practiced and refined in a cohesive process that builds across the four-year curriculum. The over-arching goals of the library are to foster a lifelong joy in learning and reading, and to prepare each student to effectively utilize scholarly resources at a university library.

The Lucas Family Library is open from 8:15am-4:45pm Monday through Thursday and 8:15am-4:15pm on Friday. With a collection of 17,000 print books, 130,000 e-books, and 53 subscription databases, the library offers a comprehensive range of the resources important for student success.
