LMS Summer Enrichment Camps

Camps are open to the public

Sacred Heart Schools Atherton offers many options for the Kindergarten through Grade 8 summer student. There are four weeklong sessions beginning June 12, 2023.

The 4-day/week sessions are $400, and 5 day/week sessions are $500.
The Summer Enrichment camps are listed below by week, along with the teacher and grade level. Select any camp to view the description.

Week 1: June 12 - 16, 2023

All classes meet M-F from 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Cost is $500/class for the entire week.

Lower School (LS) Enrichment Camps - Week 1

  • Rising Kindergarteners: LITERACY READINESS - Michele Turchetti

    Literacy for Kindergarten Readiness: Have fun and learn about letters, sounds, and stories. We will work on comprehension, writing, vocabulary development, and creativity. Campers will be immersed in building community while practicing daily classroom routines.
  • Rising 1-2nd Graders - MATH MATTERS - Steph Sanders

    This interactive, game-based week will help students to brush up on math skills learned this year! We will also explore new skills to build confidence, reconnect with old friends, and meet new classmates. Prep students for the year to come!
  • Rising 1st - 3rd graders - ART EXPLORATION PRINTMAKING - Ciara Bedingfield

    Explore different forms of printmaking, painting, and collage. We’ll work outside and study nature, then bring our drawings back to the studio and turn our creations into unique project. Students will gain confidence and have time to experiment with different materials. We’ll reference a variety of artists and learn color theory and composition along the way.
  • Rising 3 - 4th graders - SPORTS DATA AND BROADCASTING - Mackenzie Campbell

    Do you dream of becoming a sideline reporter, hosting your own podcast, or even developing the Sportscenter of the future? No matter which sport or athlete you love, in this class you will learn how to research, analyze data, and present your findings in persuasive and engaging ways.
  • Rising 3 - 5th graders - SUPERHEROES - THE PLAY - Thaine Sugden

    Superheroes...the play. A 2 week intensive of drama skills building through games, character exploration, audition, rehearsal, and ultimately the performance of a family fun showcase of our favorite Superheroes....on their day off! What's Batman supposed to do when his dry cleaning isn't quite ready? Please sign up for both weeks as this runs the length of two weeks of morning camps.

  • Rising 4 - 6th graders - BUILDING AN INTERACTIVE FRIENDLY MONSTER - Ben Howe

    Have you seen Tacocat, Baymax, or Spongebob in the HUB and said, “I want to build something like that!”? Well in this course you will build your very own interactive-friendly monster! We will learn about e-textiles, sewing, and basic coding to create your own stuffed animal that lights up and makes sounds based on your interactions with it.
  • Rising 4 - 6th graders FANTASY WRITING - Paulina Grzegorek

    Do you love reading fantasy books? Have you ever wanted to write a fantasy story? This is your chance! Come create and illustrate a fantasy adventure of your own, with classmates who love a good story as much as you do.

MS Enrichment Camps - Week 1

  • Rising 6 - 8th graders MS SERVICE HELPING HANDS - Kelly Power

    Cooking, Creating, and getting your hands dirty! You will be supporting local outreach and campus programs by preparing meals for St. Church and Sandwiches on Sunday along with working in the campus garden and farm.
  • Rising 6 - 8th graders WOOD CARVING - Edward Murphy

    Learn the wonderful art of wood carving! Participants in this class will learn how to use small power tools like rotary drill, reciprocating chisels and low tech hand tools like chisels, gouges and whittling knives. Make your very own wood carving from start to finish.

Week 2: June 20 - 23, 2023

All classes meet Tues-F from 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Cost is $400/class for the entire week. No class on Monday, Jun 19 for the Juneteenth holiday.

  • Rising Kindergarteners - FUN WITH NUMBERS! - Michele Turchetti

    Math for Kindergarten Readiness: have fun with numbers including reinforcing numbers 1-20, game-based money exploration, number art, and music. Learn Kindergarten routines, while developing friendships and confidence!
  • Rising 1-2nd graders - PREPARE FOR 1ST & 2ND GRADE- Steph Sanders

    Prepare your child for 1st and 2nd grade through reading, word games, and math activities that build number sense and pattern knowledge. Learn school routines, while developing friendships and confidence.

  • Rising 3 - 5th graders - THINK CRITICALLY AND CREATE - Christina Fong

    Students will become entrepreneurs and create their very own restaurants! Who doesn't love a juicy burger, Taco Tuesday, or pepperoni pizza? This time the students will be in charge of the restaurant's name, floor plan, menu, and overall operation! Activities will include: naming and designing a restaurant, creating the supply and grocery lists, putting together an award-winning dish, and creating advertisements. We will also explore different types of cuisine through read-alouds and videos and practice our money skills with real cash registers!
  • Rising 4 - 5th graders - ART EXPLORATION: PHOTOGRAPHY - Ciara Bedingfield

    Photography means drawing with light! Using cameras, Ipads, cyanotypes and more, students will learn to compose, light and make photographs. We’ll try our hand at portraits, landscapes, and tabletop photography, and learn simple editing skills. By the end of the week students will have another way to express their creativity and share their own story.

  • Rising 5 - 7th graders - WRITING ESSENTIALS - Paulina Grzegorek

    Do you wish you could be a better writer? Do you have a hard time getting started with writing assignments? This writing class will help you with the basics of writing and organizing your work. We will focus on sentence structure, paragraphs, and grammar, and we will have fun doing it!

Middle School (MS) Enrichment Camps - Week 2

  • Rising 6th - 8th graders - CITIZEN MATH - Torri Horovitz

    Mathematics can be an important tool for better understanding social injustice in the world around us. We will be using materials designed by Citizen Math, a group dedicated to helping students see the real-world applications of math in an interactive and accessible fashion. Questions we will consider will range from the impact of a simple traffic ticket for someone living on a tight budget to the impact of different grading practices on the experiences of students.

  • Rising 1 - 2nd graders - BUILD A ZOO! - Kristina Restifo

    Our young entrepreneurs will use their math, reading and writing skills to create their own zoo! We will create the zoo grounds, pick which animals roam about, make a zoo keeper’s schedule and even include a souvenir shop. At the end of the week, students will bring home their zoo creation!
  • Rising 2 & 3rd graders - SELF PUBLISHING - Melissa Campbell (Fedoronko)

    Craft your very own fiction story that is taken through the writing process from planning & idea generation to publishing & illustration! Students will deepen their writing skills and end the week with a hardcover of their original masterpiece!
  • Rising 3 - 4th graders - THE BIG BAD! - Thaine Sugden

    What happens when the Big Bad Wolf goes on trial for his crimes? Let's find out how this fairy tale redo answers that question! Fun times learning how to put on this fun-filled plan through character development, auditions, rehearsals, and performance. Including improv games and body movement. Please sign up for both weeks as this runs the length of two weeks of morning camps.

  • Rising 4 - 6th graders - ELECTRIC GUITARS - Cristina Paredes-Murrell

    Building cardboard electric guitars. In this music camp, you will learn the basics of musical sounds by creating instruments from a variety of materials like cardboard, wires, and programmed microcontrollers. By the end of this Flex, you will take home your very own cardboard acoustic guitar that you coded yourself using Arduino IDE and S4A software.

MS Enrichment Camps - Week 3

  • Rising 6-8th graders - AI - Ben Howe

    Artificial Intelligence (AI). In this course, we will learn about what AI is, how it is currently used in the real world, program robots, and train machine learning algorithms. This course requires no prior coding experience as we will be using block coding. In the end, you will have a robot with AI that performs a task.
  • Rising 6 - 8th graders - CAMPUS BIOBLITZ - Edward Murphy

    Join us in a scientific exploration and study of the campus environment including the wildlife, plant life and all of the natural and built ecosystems that keep our community thriving. Participants in this class will help complete a BioBlitz of the campus, useful for supporting science fair or service learning projects during the school year.

Week 4: July 3 - 7, 2023

All classes meet Mon and W-F from 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Cost is $400/class for the entire week. No class on Tuesday, July 4 for the Fourth of July holiday.

  • Rising 4 - 6 th graders - INTRODUCTION TO CREATIVE MARKETING - McCall Birchall

    Experience an introduction to basic marketing terms using creative outlets such as brand design, collages and vision boards, color scheming, and more! Students will use creativity while also learning basic Canva skills to independently present and market their "branded" creations at the end of the week. This course is perfect for all who want to learn about a new field, gain confidence, and practice creative design!
  • Rising 6 - 8th graders - WOOD CARVING - Edward Murphy
