Ryan Friere singled home the tying run and then scored the go-ahead run as Sacred Heart rallied past visiting Sequoia, 8-5, on Wednesday in a Peninsula Athletic League contest.

The victory brings the Gators (20-6, 10-3) closer to a possible Bay Division championship, with one game remaining in the regular season. Sacred Heart Prep travels to Sequoia on Friday for a 4 p.m. league contest.

Sacred Heart Prep retains a razor thin lead over Carlmont, which has a makeup game with Sequoia on Thursday and a game at Menlo on Friday at 4 p.m.

Carlmont (14-10, 9-3) beat the visiting Knights (7-16, 3-10) on Wednesday, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a deficit.

The Gators took a 4-0 lead into the top of the fourth, courtesy of an RBI single by Jack Donnelly in the first and a three-run rally in the third, on one hit. Friere and Donnelly each drove in runs and Jack FitzSimons scored on a passed ball.

Starter Dominic Cacchione cruised through his first 3 1/3 innings and suddenly the Cherokees came alive, scoring five runs on six hits, two walks and an error.

Gators center fielder Kyle Cody ended the inning by throwing out a runner at home, where John McGrory applied the tag.

Just as suddenly, Reece Lindquist, who relieved in the fourth, restored order, facing one over the minimum over the last three innings.

That gave the Gators a chance to storm back in the fifth. Cody drew an one-out walk, stole second and scored on Friere's two-out single. Friere took second on the throw home and reached third on a passed ball ahead of Donnelly's single.

Eric DeBrine tripled home a run in the sixth and then scored on Harry Marshall's groundout.
