Combining art and social justice issues, Sacred Heart eighth graders in the Mural Painting elective class collaborated to create a large-scale piece entitled “Marching to a Brighter Future.” The mural was produced during their visit to Precita Eyes Mural Center in San Francisco’s Mission District, where they went on a walking tour and participated in a painting workshop.

Tasked to create an instant mural, the class of 10 chose the theme of social justice and integrated different issues, such as global warming, gender equality, animal rights, free speech and access to health care. The progressive image highlights the movement from injustices through dark imagery to the light featuring a more inclusive and positive environment.
