The SHP Girls Basketball team fought all the way back from an 18-7 first-quarter deficit, to tie the game at the end of regulation, and send the Gators to overtime. Ultimately, Clovis outscored SHP in OT by 4, winning 69-65.
Sacred Heart Prep made the long drive to Clovis and nearly came out with a win in the NorCal Division II game.
“It could’ve been a sweeter bus ride home,’’ SHP coach Kai Bell said. “But we went down swinging.’’
The Gators trailed by three at the end of regulation when Kennedy Anderson was fouled attempting a 3-pointer.
“I must’ve seen that happen 100 times and I’ve never seen anyone make all three shots,’’ Bell said.
Anderson made the first two, Clovis called a timeout to try to ice her, and then she stepped back to the line and made the third shot as well to send the game to overtime.
“They just made a couple more shots in overtime than we did,’’ Bell said.
Denise Stine led SHP with 18 points. Grace Florendo and Anderson scored 15 apiece and Megan Norris had 13.
