NorCal prep soccer: SHP boys defy the odds

The SHP Boys Soccer team defeated Central High School 2-1 in the opening round of the NorCal Division 1 Playoffs. 

Division I 
Senior Liam Johnson scored first and No. 5 seed Sacred Heart Prep went on to beat No. 4 Central 2-1 in the quarterfinal of the NorCal Division I soccer playoffs Tuesday in Fresno.

The Gators (20-1-2) advance to play top seed Jesuit (24-1-1) in Carmichael at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Jesuit beat No. 8 De La Salle 2-1.

SHP is 9-0-2 in true road games while Jesuit is 7-1 at home.

Johnson was named the 49ers CCS Boys Soccer Player of the Year earlier in the day. Johnson was named the WBAL Forward of the Year and senior Kevin Box was named the league's Defender of the Year.

Alex Moretti, Kyle Nilsson, Alexi Stavropoulos and goalie Hank Twichell were named first team all-WBAL.

Girls soccer 
Eighth-seeded Sacred Heart Prep led to host Branson, the top seed, in the first round of the NorCal soccer playoffs.

The two-time Central Coast Section Division IV champion finished the season 10-7-6.
