Prep report: Sacred Heart Prep Girls LAX takes over first place

The SHP Girls lacrosse team took over sole possession of 1st place in the WBAL with a 10-5 win over rival Menlo. The Boys Golf and Volleyball teams followed suit, both defeating Hillsade on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshman Ellie Noto scored four goals, senior Ingrid Corrigan added three and visiting Sacred Heart Prep took over sole possession of first place in the West Bay Athletic League, beating previously undefeated Menlo School, 10-5, Tuesday. 

The Gators (5-3, 4-0) held a 5-4 edge at halftime and then took control in the second half. Sophomore Genna Gibbons added two goals for SHP, which hosts Palo Alto in a nonleague match at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Emma Briger made five saves for the Gators, who have not lost to a Central Coast Section team yet this season. Allison Carter added a goal and an assist.

Abby Doll scored a pair of goals for Menlo (5-2, 3-1), which plays at Burlingame on Friday.

Menlo-Atherton took a big lead and then hung on to beat host Mitty, 13-10, on Tuesday night in another WBAL League contest. 

The Bears led 9-1 at the half on goals from Hannah Shaw, Leiney Paul and Audrey Koren, who each had three goals in the game. 

Bears defense dominated the first half until Ania McNichols scored with a minute remaining until halftime. The second half was a different story as the Monarch drove hard to goal, gained free positions and scored to bring Mitty within two with 45 seconds remaining. 

The Bears responded by winning the subsequent draw and Audrey Koren scored the final goal to put the game away.

The Bears (5-3, 3-1) host Castilleja on Thursday at 4 p.m.


Boys Golf 
Finn O'Kelly shot a 1-under 34 to earn medalist honors and lead Sacred Heart Prep to a 190-235 victory over Crystal Springs Uplands at Poplar Creek Golf Club on Tuesday.

Rayn Rizvi and Beck O'Kelly each fired a round of 38 while Thomas Molumphy signed off on a 39 and Matt Flynn finished with a 41.

Menlo downed the Gators (3-3) at Los Altos Country Club on Monday, 197-214, to remain unbeaten in WBAL play at 6-0.

Seth Pope and Charlie Hsieh shared medalist honors, each carding a 37. Jeremy Yun scored a 40, Seiji Yang fired a 41 and Kripa Dharan came in with a 42.


Boys Volleyball 
Sacred Heart Prep downed Hillsdale, 25-23, 25-19, 12-25, 25-13, in a nonleague match Tuesday night. The Gators (11-5, 2-2) handed the Knights (8-2, 7-1) their second loss of the year.

SH Prep, with seniors David Macias, Garrett Pinkston and Jack Loftus, travels to play Santa Clara in a SCVAL El Camino Division match at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
