Boys and girls swimming strong in wins against Valley Christian

The Boys edged Valley Christian 89-83, while the Girls were 119-51 victors over the Warriors. 

BOYS SWIMMING
Senior Larsen Weigle and junior Ryan Kim each won two individual events and swam on a winning relay to help host Sacred Heart Prep edge Valley Christian, 89-83, in a nonleague swimming meet Thursday.

Sophomore Will McGaughey also won an event for the Gators, who are hosting the 10th annual California Catholic Challenge, drawing Catholic schools from all around the state on Saturday, March 30.

There are about a dozen schools attending, including Bellarmine, Mitty, Presentation, De La Salle, Saint Francis Sacramento, Marin Catholic, Jesuit, Mater Dei (Los Angeles), and Santa Margarita (Orange County).

Kim took top honors in the 200 IM in a swift 1:59.42 and then came back to win the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.73, meeting the CCS qualifying standard in both events.

Weigle, headed to Stanford to play water polo, won the 50 free in 22.44 and the 100 free in 48.56, also CCS qualifying marks.

Kim and Weigle were joined by Xavier Marco and Andrew Churukian on the winning 200 free relay team timed in a CCS mark 1:29.49.

McGaughey won the 500 free with a time of 4:58.31, the lone simmer undwer five minutes.

GIRLS SWIMMING
Junior Sloane Reinstein and freshman Kaia Li were each double winners and both swam on two winning relay teams to help Sacred Heart Prep swim past Valley Christian 119-51.

Sophomore Eleanor Facey and freshman Margot Gibbons were also individual winners.

Reinstein set the pace in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.92, nearly nine seconds ahead of the rest of the field. She came back to win the 100 back in a speedy 59.63. 

Li took top honors in the 200 IM in 2:05.81, winning by almost eight seconds. Li came back to take charge of the 100 free, swimming 53.65. 

Reinstein and Li, with seniors Gaby Ma and Megan Ross, won the 200 free relay with a solid time of 1:38.89, seven seconds ahead of the Warriors, who also swam a CCS qualifying time.

Gibbons, who went 59.04 in a close 100 fly race and placed second in the 50 free, swam with Li, Reinstein and Ross on the winning 400 free relay.

Eleanor Facey won the 500 free in 5:21.61, finishing less than a second ahead of her older sister, Annabel Facey.
