Gators shine at K-Bell Invitational

Max Cluss, Luci Lambert, and Keegan Shaw paced the Gator Track and Field team, finishing 6th, 6th, and 4th respectively in SHP's first meet of the season. 
Gunn's Jared Freeman and Maansay Rishi and Palo Alto's Henry Saul each won individual events, highlighting action at the K-Bell Invitational track and field meet on Saturday at Westmont High.

Saul won the boys' 3,200 meters in a Central Coast Section season best 9:29.81 while Freeman took top honors in the discus with a heave of 149-5, just under his CCS-leading 152-6. 

Freeman placed third in the shot put with a mark of 48-9 1/2, a little more than three feet behind the winning mark.

Rishi crossed the finish line in the girls' 3,200 meters with a time of 11:30.99, fourth-best mark in the CCS this season, just ahead of Palo Alto's Miranda Jimenez (11:31.84). Rishi also placed sixth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:20.23.

Woodside's Elle Marsyla ran fifth in the 3,200 with a time of 11:51.19. Palo Alto's Donald Taggart went 9:39.78 in the boys' 3,200, finishing fourth and also the fourth fastest in the CCS. Woodside's Nathan Bowman was seventh in 9:53.07.

Also among the boys, Gunn's Justin Chiao placed second in a competitive 800 meters. Woodside resident Euan Cairns of St. Francis won the event in 1:59.16 and Chiao was right behind in 1:59.25. Lancer Mason Elefant was third in 1:59.54 and Sacred Heart Prep's Max Cluss was sixth in 2:00.53.

Menlo's Ayinde Olukotun was fifth in the 200 with a time of 23.71 and 12th in the 400 in 54.14. Palo Alto's Bryan Kagiri was 10th in the 100 with a time of 11.90.

On the girls side, Menlo's Alexandra Chan was second in the 100 hurdles in 15.70, third-best among CCS times.

Chan ran 50.36 to place third in the 300 hurdles, just ahead of Palo Alto's Ariel Le, who raced 51.57.

Sacred Heart Prep's Luci Lambert finished sixth in the 800, running a 2:25.61. Woodside resident Isabelle Cairns of St. Francis won the event in 2:16.01.

Gunn's Ria Sood was eighth (1:03.76) in the 400, Palo Alto's Brianna Miller placed eighth (27.82) in the 200 and teammate Madeline Lohse was 10th (28.06).

SHP's Keegan Shaw leapt 16-3 to place fourth in the long jump and Gunn's Kya Tracy was fourth in the high jump.
