Honoring the best performances of the week...

Alex Salise, South City girls’ basketball. The sophomore point guard rallied the Lady Warriors in the CCS Division III semifinals, scoring 19 points, including 17 in the second half to front a 38-8 run to close out the comeback victory.56-38 over Sobrato. The comeback sent South City back to the Division III championship game for the second straight year, where Salise scored a team-high 14 points as the Warriors fell to Aptos.

Mariah Diaz, Notre Dame-Belmont girls’ soccer. The senior striker scored the game’s only goal in the 77thminute as the Tigers captured the CCS Division II championship with a 1-0 win over Leigh, the school’s first since 2004. Diaz played the first half of the season at center fullback before moving into an attacking role. She then missed six straight games before coming back for the CCS title game.

Antonio Rojas, San Mateo baseball. Through three games, the junior Rojas is batting a cool .875 with seven hits in his first nine at-bats — including a homer and three doubles — as the Bearcats have opened the season 3-0. He’s also launched his first home run of the year in the Bearcats’ 3-2 non-league win over rival Burlingame.

Caitlin Carcione, Sacred Heart Prep girls’ soccer. The senior scored both goals, including the game-winner with five minutes left in the second overtime period, as she helped lead the Gators to the CCS Division IV soccer championship with a 2-1 win over WBAL rival Woodside Priory. Elle Lessing set up Carcione in the 31st minute, while Juliana Rosen delivered the game-winning pass in the 95thminute. It was the Gators’ fourth CCS title since 2009.

Emma McGraw, Mills softball. The Lady Vikings rallied for a 9-4 win in their season opener against Mercy-Burlingame. McGraw spoiled a big day for Mercy junior Izzy Bojorquez, who went 4 for 4 as Mercy jumped out to a 4-1 lead. McGraw fronted the big Mills comeback though, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Mills senior Sammi Yeung enjoyed a nice opening day at the plate as well, going 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Mikaela Contreras, El Camino girls’ wrestling. While Menlo-Atherton had four podium finishes to take second place at the CIF State Wrestling Championships, the only San Mateo County wrestler not from M-A to medal was the El Camino senior Contreras. She took fifth place in the 131-pound division earning wins over Valley Center freshman Desiree Jones, Valencia senior Shani Tyson and Bella Vista junior Emily Alderman to reach the semifinals.

Levi Stubbles, El Camino baseball. The Colts are off to a 2-1 start, their best since 2014. Stubbles has been a consistent force, hitting safely in all three games, going 4 for 8 with three doubles. He also made his season debut on the mound in a 5-1 loss to Sacred Heart Cathedral, but limited the damage for El Camino by firing three shutout innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out five.

Lydia Manu, Aragon girls’ basketball. The junior guard capped the Dons’ first CCS title with a 28-pointer performance during a 53-48 win over No. 4 Lynbrook in the Division II championship game. In three CCS games last week — quarterfinals, semis and championship game — Manu averaged 22.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Talita Falepapalangi, Sequoia girls’ basketball. The junior put the “power” in power forward Saturday against Palo Alto, scoring a game-high 22 points to lead the Cherokees to a 50-34 win in the CCS Division I championship game. The title for Sequoia marks the first in program history.
