On Mar. 2, Prep student club, the Film Lovers’ Association of Sacred Heart, welcomed Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Michael Schwarz to campus to screen his science and social justice-themed film, “The $1 Microscope.”
Senior Nick G. reflected on the visit:
The Film Lovers’ Association of Sacred Heart (colloquially known as FLASH), a media organization created and led by fellow senior Shelbyann M. and me, hosted a screening of the “The $1 Microscope,” followed by a talk and Q&A from its director Michael Schwarz. The short documentary told the story of a Stanford science team that created a foldable and affordable microscope for children in under-resourced regions interested in biology. After the film, Schwarz discussed the process of the film’s creation, as well as other projects his company, Kikim Media, has produced. Schwarz concluded by answering questions from eager young filmmakers and encouraged them to develop storytelling skills throughout their educational career.
