Sacred Heart Prep wins WBAL lacrosse title

Sacred Heart Prep responded to an early deficit with six unanswered goals en route to a 12-6 victory over Menlo-Atherton in a West Bay Athletic League girls lacrosse match at Coach Ben Parks Field last Friday. 
 
Senior Allison Carter scored three goals to lead the Gators (15-5, 12-0), who are 14-1 against Central Coast Section teams.

Sophomore Genna Gibbons added a pair of goals and recorded three assists for SHP, which has a bye into Thursday's WBAL semifinals and will likely play either Castilleja or Mitty,

Menlo, which beat Castilleja 14-11 on Friday, finished second and will also wait for the semifinals, where the Knights will likely host Menlo-Atherton.

M-A has a home match to open the playoffs against St. Francis on Tuesday, with a time to be determined. Castilleja travels to play Mitty in San Jose.

SHP sophomore Kalista Hurel and freshman Ava Shenk each added a pair of goals while seniors Ingrid Corrigan and Haley Zimits and sophomore Lauren Hagerty also scored.

Junior Audrey Koren scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Bears (11-6, 8-4), who took an early 3-2 lead before SHP went on a scoring spree to finish the first half with an 8-3 advantage. Junior Theresa McGannon added a pair of goals and an assist and senior Lauren Baker also scored.

M-A had won five straight heading into the contest. SHP has won 12 of its past 14 games.

Seniors Taylor DeGroff and Anka Adzich, who also had a pair of assists, each scored four goals and combined for 10 draw controls for Castilleja (5-10-1, 3-8-1). Senior Gaby Nightingale had three goals and an assist and sophomore Alia Singh made nine saves.
