SHP girls beat Menlo in WCAL water polo

Alexandra Szczerba scored five goals and had three assists as Sacred Heart Prep downed host Menlo School, 19-7, in a West Catholic Athletic League girls’ water polo contest Wednesday.

Ashley Penner added four goals and two assists for the Gators (8-1), who finish their season Thursday with a game at NorCal powerhouse Miramonte. Ella Woodhead produced three goals and three assists.

Ashley Penner scored four goals and recorded two assists in the Gators' win over Menlo. 

Alina Hernandez scored three goals for Menlo (5-4), which hosts Menlo-Atherton in its season finale Friday.
Rusha Bhat added a pair of goals.

Brienz Lang scored both of her goals in the first 5 1/2 minutes of play, helping SHP build a 5-1 advantage. She later added an assist.

Lucy Homer led the Gators with four steals to go with a pair of assists. Goalkeeper Megan Norris added three steals and recorded seven saves (.700 save percentage) playing the first half.
Kate Brandin made both of her shots on goal, added a pair of assists and recorded two steals. Riley Hocker also had two goals and two assists and drew two exclusions.

Maggie Stevens also scored for SHP, while Paedrin Gillett recorded four saves (.571 save percentage) playing the second half.

Malia Chavinson and Erica Fenyo also scored for Menlo. Nyla Sharma and Hope Isaacson shared goaltending duties. Scarlett Gamble recorded an assist.
