Boys Volleyball Sweeps Santa Clara
Sacred Heart Prep remained in the thick of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division race following a 25-14, 25-11, 25-8 decision over Santa Clara in Atherton on Tuesday.
Devon Sheehan pitched an eight-hitter and helped herself with two hits and two RBIs in Woodside's 4-2 victory over Half Moon Bay on Tuesday in a Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division contest that included a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean.
Gianna Voltattorni also drove in two runs for the Wildcats (5-10, 4-4), who travel to play Capuchino at 4 p.m. Thursday in San Bruno.
Sheehan pitched in and out of trouble all afternoon. The Cougars loaded the bases with no outs in the third but Sheehan avoided any damage when James, who played third, forced one runner at the plate and then started an inning-ending double play.
Half Moon Bay drew three walks and collected a pair of hits in the fifth inning but Sheehan was again helped by her defense as Megan Barstad threw out a runner trying to steal. Sheehan went on to retire seven of the final eight batters she faced.
Boys volleyball

John Marc Bautista recorded 10 kills and Garrett Pinkston added nine kills to go with five service aces for the Gators (17-6, 8-3), who have an important league match at home against Palo Alto at 6:45 p.m. Friday.
SHP is in third place, a game behind the Vikings (14-4, 8-1) and 1 1/2 games behind leader Wilcox (16-10, 9-1). Paly has a home match against Eastside Prep on Wednesday at 6:45 p.m. before traveling to Atherton on Friday.
Girls lacrosse
Page Wolfenden scored six goals, recorded three assists and won seven draw controls to help Menlo School win on the road, beating Burlingame 16-4 in a WBAL Foothill Division match Tuesday.
Bella Scola added four goals and six draw controls for the Knights (9-4, 7-2), who drew within two games of idle Sacred Heart Prep (11-4, 9-0), which goes to Amador Valley for a non-league match Wednesday at 7 p.m. before taking on Menlo at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Charlotte Swisher and Alta Knuff each added two goals for the Knights while Sophie Scola scored a goal and added three assists. Abby Doll also scored and Alyssa Sahami made five saves.
Menlo-Atherton scored the final four goals to overcome a five-goal deficit to beat Castilleja 15-13 in another WBAL contest at El Camino Park in Palo Alto.
Audrey Koran, Theresa McGannon and Sally Norman each scored four goals for the Bears (8-5, 6-3), who are in third place, a game behind Menlo. M-A plays at Burlingame on Tuesday.
Anika Adzich and Gaby Nightingale each scored four goals to pace Castilleja (4-7-1, 2-5-1), which travels to Burlingame for a match Friday. Taylor DeGroff and Olivia Watson each added a pair of goals.
The Gators took an 8-3 edge in the first half and led at halftime. McGannon scored twice early in the second half to tie the match but Castilleja countered with goals from Adzich and DeGroff to regain the lead and set up M-A's late rally.
Bears goalie Julie Mullarkey came up big in the second half, making a pair of saves and intercepting three passes to give her teammates a chance to come back.
