Juniors Max Dorward and Spencer Rojahn helped get Palo Alto's boys' basketball season off to a fast start Tuesday in the Vikings' 80-55 victory over Sacred Heart Prep in the opening round of the Burlingame Lions tournament.

Dorward netted 24 points and Rojahn added 20, which included four 3-pointers, for the Vikings, who are coming off a 16-9 season.

Eric DeBrine led the Gators, who also played their season-opener, with 21 points. Tevan Panchal added 16 points.

Palo Alto used an effective press and defensive pressure to produce an up tempo style that fit the Vikings, who outscored Sacred Heart Prep, 31-9, in the second quarter, just fine.

The Gators, 15-11 last year, outscored Paly in the second half, including a competitive 22-20 edge in the third quarter. The Vikings led, 52-21, at halftime.

Sacred Heart Prep meets Irvington-Fremont (0-2), which lost to host Burlingame, Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Palo Alto plays in the winner's bracket.
