At SHS, the fine arts are a cornerstone of the student experience. From our youngest students to our eldest, exposure and access to SHS' dynamic arts curriculum and co-curricular arts activities promote the development of creative self-expression, inspire imagination, and encourage innovation and self-direction. Encompassing instrumental and vocal music, dance and drama, and digital and studio arts, this comprehensive program includes both classroom instruction and technical training, as well as ample opportunity for students to regularly perform and exhibit works to the greater community.
From sparking creativity to teaching life lessons and benefiting all aspects of the educational experience, the fine arts at SHS are much more than an interdisciplinary study for students in preschool through 12th grades.
Drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, digital arts, filmmaking, and ceramics comprise the digital and visual arts programs at SHS. With a high degree of hands-on experimentation at every level, courses integrate study of contemporary and classic artists with the development of individual style and expression.
From strings ensembles to pep bands, choirs to a cappella groups, songwriting to instruction in unusual instruments, the music program at SHS is among the most robust on the Peninsula and emphasizes technical fundamentals, a variety of music styles, history, and standards, and progression of individual musicianship.
Engaging, challenging, and with an emphasis on building confidence, imagination, and physical self-awareness, the SHS theatrical and dance programs offer quality instruction, outstanding facilities, and several opportunities throughout the year for live performance.
