The Sacred Heart eighth grade Competitive Civics elective class participated in its annual moot court at the Stanford Law School on Oct. 26. Commonly referred to as the SHS Gov Team, the students argued the merits of Trinity Lutheran v. Pauley before a panel of Stanford law professors and students.
The case, scheduled to be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court this fall, explores issues surrounding freedom of religion and equal protection under the Constitution. The class, led by teachers Robin Laws and Nicole Rehberg, researched both sides of the case, argued legal precedent and were subjected to intense cross examination before hearing the judges' verdict. The students' demonstrated leadership and poise while having fun learning about law and government.
