The SHP Boys Basketball team defeated Mountain View 63-46, while the Girls Soccer team tied Los Altos 1-1.

Boys Basketball
Sacred Heart Prep is not counting on any one person to carry the scoring load and that has resulted in early success for the Gators, who won their third straight, beating host Mountain View 63-46 in a non-league boys basketball game Tuesday.

Jai Deshpande scored 14 points, one of five players to reach double figures, to lead SHP (3-1), which meets St. Ignatius (1-2) for their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday.

Aidan Braccia added 13 points, Emmer Nichols had 12, Charlie Selna 11 and James Pleasants 10.

The Gators handed Mountain View (4-1) its first loss of the season. The Spartans were 24-5 last season and reached the second round of the Division III Northern California playoffs.

Girls Soccer

Sacred Heart Prep and visiting Los Altos (1-3-1) played to a 1-1 girls soccer tie in the second game of the Firebird Invitational on Tuesday.

Freshman Sydney Adas gave the Gators a 1-0 lead with an assist from Elle Lessing but the Eagles scored less than two minutes later on a breakaway.

In four matches thus far, three have ended in a 1-1 tie for SH Prep, which meets Valley Christian at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in the third match of the tournament.

The Gators (0-1-3) had several nice chances in the final minutes, with Adas slamming one off the post and junior Megan Tinsley forcing a nice save by the Los Altos keeper.

Senior Nikki Molumphy contributed several crossing passes into the middle and Tinsley's free kick nearly broke the tie.

Sophomore Sofia Moretti played a solid game in the net, with the lone goal a 1-on-1 with a Los Altos player.
