SHP retains WCAL girls water polo tournament title

SHP defeated host St. Francis, 11-2, in the championship game of the West Catholic Athletic League girls' water polo tournament Saturday.

Nellie McAdams recorded 10 saves and Megan Norris, who was in goal for the fourth period, added six for the Gators (20-6), who will likely get one of the top three seeds in the Central Coast Section Open Division, which get underway on Saturday, Nov. 3. The seeding meeting will be held Sunday morning.
Sacred Heart Prep scored the game's first six goals. Johnson scored two minutes into the contest, assisted by Bella Bachler. Johnson returned the favor three minutes later, assisting on a Bachler score that put the Gators ahead, 2-0.
Ashley Penner scored, with an assist from Olivia Smith, to put SHP up 6-0 with 2:19 remaining in the first half. The Lancers scored twice within a minute of each other and then never scored again.
Eleanor Facey and Bachler each scored twice for Sacred Heart Prep, which is 13-2 against CCS teams, splitting two games with Soquel and losing to Leland, the defending CCS champion and likely top seed for the CCS Open Division.
Alexandra Szczerba and Daphne Crum also scored for the Gators, who have won 11 of their past 12 games. Annabel Facey added two assists and Cameron Wu had an assist.
