Prep report: Tennis, volleyball and WBAL cross country

Palo Alto Online recaps yesterday's Gator performances, including a pivotal victory Varsity Girls Tennis, as well as more standout performances from Boys & Girls Cross Country.
Girls Tennis Lindsay Lynch, Isa Robinson and Katherine Salisbury each won at the top of the singles ladder to lead Sacred Heart Prep past host Harker, 5-2, in a West Bay Athletic League girls tennis match on Thursday.
The Gators' No. 2 doubles team of Noorayn Jafri and Sarah Quinlan and the No. 3 doubles team of Sarah McGrath and Skylar Schuman also scored victories for SHP (8-3, 5-0), which hosts Menlo School in a battle of league unbeatens at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Sacred Heart Prep has come closer than any other team in stopping the state record streak, dropping a couple of 4-3 matches in recent years.
Boys cross country
Menlo's Kamran Murray won the individual race and Sacred Heart Prep won the team title at the West Bay Athletic League's Meet 1 on Thursday on the Crystal Springs cross country course in Belmont.
Murray finished in 16:01.0, ahead of SHP's Max Cluss (16:08.3), Crystal Springs Uplands' Wilser Vasquez (16:15.7), Eastside Prep's Carlos Anye Nunez (16:22.5) and SHP's Calvin Katz (16:22.5), who rounded out the top five.
Other scorers for the Gators included Axel De Vernou (6th, 16:23.5), Matthew Chun (9th, 16:56.8) and Jake Wheeler (15th, 17:36.6).
Girls cross country
Menlo School saw all five of its scoring runners finish among the top 13 to earn the team title with 34 points. Castilleja (42) was close behind, with its top finishing among the top 18. Sacred Heart Prep (88) ran third and had four runners among the top 20.
Genna Gibbons was Sacred Heart Prep's top runner, finishing the course in 18:59.7, good for fourth overall. Caitlyn Perkocha was 11th in 20:07.2, Janie Morganroth placed 16th in 20:53.5 andLucy Paynter finished 20th in 21:15.3.
