Kindergarten Class Gives Thanks

Students shared appreciation for the new kindergarten building with the construction team
The kindergarten class invited the construction team, architects, and structural engineers who built the new kindergarten facility to campus this morning to share their appreciation.

Construction of the four-classroom, 4,000-square foot building was completed in just 11 weeks from start to finish over the summer, with crews working swiftly to have the building ready to go for the first day of school.

XL Construction, in partnership with Aedis Architects and Daedalus Structural Engineering, built the sustainable TimberQuest classrooms. TimberQuest employs cross-laminated timber to create prefabricated wall and roof panels offsite that are erected and installed at school sites.

The children created “thank you” banners, sang a “thank you” song, and performed a musical version of the prayer, I Am a Child of the Sacred Heart.

Students were able to ask the special visitors questions in small groups about the design and building process, and then shared what they love most about the new classrooms.

“My kids asked great questions,” said SHS kindergarten teacher Whitney Infelise. Among the queries were questions like, “Why does the roof tilt?”; “How did you put the walls up?”; “How did you put the roof on the building?”;  and, “How does electricity get to the lights?”

The crew members read each group Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site, the No. 1 New York Times bestselling children’s book by Sherri Duskey Rinker. “The team generously provided a copy of the book for each child and every kindergarten classroom,” said SHS kindergarten teacher Megan DeRitis. “It was a great morning!”
