Trey Adams, Greg Gaines and Kaleb McGary were named to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy, while Gaines, Taylor Rapp and Ben Burr-Kirven made the Nagurski list.
Gaines, a senior defensive lineman from La Habra, Calif., was a second-team All-Pac-12 and Academic All-Pac-12 selection last year. He has started all 27 games the last two years, as well as six more as a freshman in 2015. During that time, the Huskies have had the top defensive in the Pac-12, based on total defense and scoring defense, all three years. Along with the Nagurski and Outland, Gaines made the watch list for the Bednarik Award.
Adams, a senior offensive tackle from Wenatchee, Wash., started the first seven games last year before suffering a season-ending injury. In 2016, he started all 14 games en route to earning first-team All-Pac-12 and second-team All-America.
McGary, a senior offensive tackle from Fife, Wash., has started every game of the last two years at right tackle, after having made six starts as a redshirt freshman in 2015. He earned first-team All-Pac-12 last year.
The Outland Trophy is awarded to the nation's top interior lineman and was won by Washington's Steve Emtman in 1991.
Rapp, a junior defensive back from Bellingham, Wash., was the Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2016 before earning first-team All-Pac-12 and Academic All-Pac-12 last year. He has started 22 of 27 games over the last two seasons and has 112 career tackles. He has also been watch-listed by the Bednarik and Jim Thorpe Awards.
Burr-Kirven, a senior linebacker from Menlo Park, Calif., has played in all but one game of his three-year career, staring eight last season as an inside linebacker. In 2017, he earned Academic All-District VIII and first-team Academic All-Pac-12 for the second year in a row, while also earning second-team All-Pac-12 by leading the Huskies with 84 total tackles.
The Nagurski Award is presented each year to the nation's top defensive player.
