SHP Girls Flag Football star Ryleigh Longaker was selected to participate in the Glow Up Girls Flag Football Classic, an elite event featuring the top 20 girls flag football players in Northern California.
Held at Moscone Center during Super Bowl week, the showcase reflected the rapid expansion of girls flag football and provided student-athletes with a high-profile platform to compete, connect, and represent their schools. The event included support and participation from NFL figures such as Brock Purdy, Jordan Love, Puka Nacua, and Eli Manning, helping amplify national attention on a sport that continues to grow through the leadership, talent, and commitment of its athletes.
Ryleigh earned her selection following a standout season in which she was named the West Bay Athletic League's Girls Flag Football Offensive MVP. A dynamic playmaker and tone-setter, she played a central role in establishing SHP’s girls flag football program during its formative years. In the first year the West Bay Athletic League held an organized championship for the sport, Ryleigh helped lead SHP to the league title, setting a strong foundation for future student-athletes.
“Ryleigh has been a leader and a role model from the very beginning,” said Jason Armstrong, Assistant Principal of Athletics. “It takes courage to step into a new high school sport and help shape it as it grows. Ryleigh embraced that opportunity, raised the standard for those around her, and helped build a program that reflects the values of teamwork, commitment, and excellence.”
Head Coach Dennis O’Malley highlighted Ryleigh’s impact on the program and its culture. “Ryleigh believed in this program from day one,” said O’Malley. “She leads with confidence, competitiveness, and a genuine commitment to her teammates. She didn’t just contribute to wins - she helped create opportunities for others and set the tone for what this program stands for.”
Her selection to the Glow Up Girls Flag Football Classic reflects both her individual accomplishments and the continued growth, visibility, and bright future of girls flag football at SHP.
SHP Athletics is proud to celebrate Ryleigh’s achievement and her role in helping build a program that expands opportunity and inspires the next generation of student-athletes.
