Joining schools across the network, Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton celebrated the Feast of Mater Admirabilis with a Mass at the Lower & Middle Schools and an Espacio at the Prep. Honoring the patroness of Sacred Heart schools, the celebration is highlighted with pink accents and followed by a goûte of pink cupcakes.
The iconic image of Mater Admirabilis is housed in Sacred Heart schools worldwide and dates back to the 1800s, when a postulant to the Society, Pauline Perdrau, asked to paint a portrait of the Virgin Mary. The image received its name in 1846 by Pope Pius IX on a visit to the RSCJ at Trinita dei Monti, as he was overwhelmed by the beauty of the fresco and exclaimed, “Mater Admirabilis!”
