  • Where Art & Math Collide - GR 1 & 2

"Students will work on both creative and many of the skills that encompass “executive function” during this week! Following a lunch and recess break, our rising 1st and 2nd graders will explore addition math facts of doubles (ex. 4+4), neighbors (ex. 4+5), and partners to 10 (ex. 3+7) through a multisensory approach that makes math facts meaningful!

For the second half of this afternoon adventure, students will also explore their artistic side with a process called Directed Drawing. In this technique Ms. Campbell guides students through each step of creating an art piece, showing them exactly where and how to make the next line or mark on their drawing. Directed drawing provides children with a ton of practice in breaking larger projects into smaller steps, following directions and paying attention to detail. Children need to listen and follow instructions closely while paying close attention to detail. This technique has proved to be a huge self-esteem booster, especially for our students who struggle in other academic areas.

*Students can look forward to bringing home 4-5 stunning art pieces, as well as a “play book” of reusable math games to share the fun with their family and friends!*
    Minimum students 10 / maximum students 15.
