In the fall of 1898, the Academy of the Sacred Heart (now known as Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton) opened its doors to welcome the first group of eager students. There was a single school structure that served as dormitory, classrooms, dining hall, chapel, and offices. The surrounding grounds, while expansive, were wholly undeveloped.
Today in 2023, while our grounds and facilities have certainly grown and changed, our unwavering commitment to serve our mission, our students, and our families has not. Neither has the blessing of the Sacred Heart educators and the RSCJ, who, throughout these decades, guided thousands of Sacred Heart children to lives of meaning, purpose, and faith with the intention to educate the whole child.
Over the next year, we intend to mark this special 125th milestone by sharing stories, pictures, and moments from our school archives, inviting contributions from our alumni, and giving special nod to those pioneering RSCJs who created such a special place that has endured.
My sincere gratitude goes to the incredibly dedicated Sacred Heart community involved in helping us prepare for the year ahead. Our community will celebrate in jubilee to ensure a year of recognizing our accomplishments, our future, and most importantly, our 125 year legacy.
Thank you for giving your children the gift of a Sacred Heart education. It is with extreme excitement that I welcome you to the 125th year of Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton.
Sincerely,
Richard A. Dioli
Director of Schools
