Gators in Rio: Pair of Alumnae Headed to Olympic Games
KK Clark (SHP ’08) and Denise Sheldon (SJS ’93, SHP ’97) will represent the U.S. in water polo and volleyball, respectively
Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton will be well represented at the upcoming 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, as alumnae KK Clark (SHP ’08) and Denise Sheldon (SJS ’93, SHP ’97) will represent the United States in women’s water polo and volleyball, respectively.
Clark and Sheldon, who are both headed to their first Games, were recently profiled in the latest issue of the Sacred Heart Magazine.
One of 13 players named to the U.S. roster, KK Clark is the first-ever Sacred Heart alumna to be named to an Olympic water polo team. Team USA heads to Rio as the reigning Olympic gold medalists and will begin their title defense versus Spain on Tuesday, Aug. 9, before closing out group play with China (Aug. 11) and Hungary (Aug. 13).
2012 Sacred Heart Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, Denise Sheldon will serve as Head of Delegation for the U.S. Women’s Volleyball team. In her role, she will manage all the logistics for Team USA’s players and coaches, so they can solely focus on game preparation, competition and recovery. The U.S. will kick off the tournament with Puerto Rico on Saturday, Aug. 6, followed by matches versus the Netherlands (Aug. 8), Serbia (Aug. 10), Italy (Aug. 12) and China on Sunday, Aug. 14 to conclude group play.
The Society of the Sacred Heart will be following all the action from Rio, as six alumnae from Australia, Canada and the U.S. will be competing in five different sports at the Games.
