Code of the Heart

The Code of the Heart is an important framework taught throughout our Preschool - Grade 8, designed to foster and put into practice the values outlined in the Goals & Criteria of Sacred Heart Schools. This framework is summarized in four specific areas of behavioral expectation; in other words, Sacred Heart students are taught and encouraged to be Ready, Responsible, Respectful, and Caring in all aspects of their lives as classmates and community members.
In order to provide an effective learning environment for all students, the SHS faculty and staff work in collaboration with students and parents to provide a predictable, positive, safe, and consistent learning environment. Faculty, staff, and administrators will use the Code of the Heart to actively teach and reinforce positive behavior to guide students as they learn how to conduct themselves appropriately. The expectation is that all SHS community members demonstrate the Code of the Heart, which is summarized by four words: Ready, Responsible, Respectful, and Caring.

As outlined in our Parent-Student Handbook (Section 6-3): Sacred Heart students are expected to abide by the Code of the Heart in all areas of their life at school and as members of the school community. Age-appropriate standards are divided into each of the four core components. As students grow and progress, so too do these standards.

Specific examples include, but are not limited to:

Ready
  • Be on time and prepared for class with the necessary materials
  • Be in the proper uniform or in compliance with the dress code at all times
  • Leave unauthorized electronic devices at home

Responsible
  • Abide by the standards stated in the Computer and Internet Use Statement
  • Take work seriously and work towards one’s highest potential
  • Be attentive in class and complete all assigned work
  • Uphold Academic Honor Code at all times
  • Be honest in dealings with all members of the school community
Respectful
  • Show respect at all times towards oneself and to all members of the school community
  • Show respect by not distracting other students or disrupting the learning process
  • Show respect by recycling and keeping the campus clean and orderly
