Nilsson headlines Mercury News Highlight Reel

Varsity soccer player Kyle Nilsson has been named to this weeks Mercury News Highlight Reel. Nilsson has been  instrumental  in the Gators' 8-0-1 start, including scoring 3 goals in his last 3 games. 

Isabel Bojorquez Emmons, Mercy-Burlingame girls soccer:
The junior midfielder found the back of the net three times in a 4-1 victory over The King’s Academy in which the Crusaders trailed 1-0 at the half. She doubled her season total for goals in the process.

Catie Cassani, Menlo School girls soccer: The Middlebury-bound senior scored twice in Menlo’s 4-3 victory over West Bay Athletic League Foothill Division-defending champion Notre Dame-Belmont. She scored her first goal to pull the Knights within one in the first half. Midway through the second, she fired in a free kick for the winner and her second two-goal game in a row.

Silivia Fonongaloa, Salesian girls basketball: The freshman scored 10 points in both an 86-24 win over El Cerrito and a 66-45 loss to Archbishop Mitty last week.

Armani Foster, Pinole Valley girls basketball: The 5-foot-3 senior came up huge last weekend with 26 points, 11 steals and four assists in a 53-44 against Albany, then the next night had 11 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists in a 29-26 grinder at College Park.

Payton Henry, Amador Valley boys soccer: The senior captain passed for all three assists in a 3-1 victory over Foothill and scored two goals in a 4-2 win over California.

Malia Mastora, St. Joseph Notre Dame girls basketball: The junior scored a team-high 17 points in both a 75-16 win over Valley Christian-Dublin and a 49-46 loss to Carondelet. In the latter game, she scored 11 of her points, including a trio of three-pointers, in the second half and also grabbed six rebounds and had three steals.

Iniko McNeil, Bishop O’Dowd boys basketball: The senior guard produced his second straight game-winning shot, a layup with five seconds remaining to beat San Leandro 52-50. He finished with five points in the fourth quarter and 10 in the game, and he also had three assists and two steals.

Julianna Moreno, Lincoln girls wrestling: The senior was crowned the champion at 131 pounds at the third-annual Kusumoto Klassic Tournament at Prospect High in Saratoga. Moreno, with a record of 20-5, is currently ranked No. 4 in the Central Coast Section. She defeated the third-ranked wrestler in CCS from Scotts Valley HS in the finals by pin.

Kyle Nilsson, Sacred Heart Prep boys soccer: The No. 8 jersey accounted for both goals in the first half of a 2-1 victory over rival Menlo School as the Gators improved to 8-0-1 on the season.

Rebecca Welsh, Miramonte girls basketball: The junior point guard scored 19 of her game-high 24 points in the second half, including four of her five three-pointers, in 53-42 victory over Folsom. She also had seven rebounds in the win.

James Wright, Silver Creek boys basketball: The 6-foot senior guard helped the Raiders pick up their first two wins in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division by draining 10 3-pointers on the road. He scored 14 points in a 53-45 win at Prospect, then blew up for 31 points in a 67-64 overtime triumph at Westmont.
