Boys water polo: Menlo, SHP, Paly advance in CCS play

Menlo School and Sacred Heart Prep each took the first step toward a possible rematch in the championship game of the Central Coast Section Open Division. The third-seeded Knights edged St. Francis, 12-11, while the top-seeded Gators took care of Soquel, 17-7, on Saturday.

Both teams are guaranteed a spot in the NorCals as a result of their victories. 

Menlo (21-7) meets Bellarmine in Wednesday's semifinal at 5:30 p.m. and Sacred Heart Prep (25-2) takes on WCAL rival Valley Christian, a 9-5 winner over St. Ignatius, at 7 p.m., with both matches at Sacred Heart Prep.

Stanford-bound Larsen Weigle scored the game's first three goals and SHP's first four goals as the Gators took charge from the start. Luke Johnston and Walker Seymour also scored in the first period en route to an 11-1 halftime advantage.

Luke Weigle added another four goals while Johnston, Seymour and Luke Hammarskjold each added a pair of goals. Johnston added three steals.

Griffen Price stopped five of the six shots he faced for an .833 save percentage. He sat out the second half.
