Cardinal corner: SHP grad Choy makes her tennis debut

In her debut with the Stanford Cardinal Women's Tennis team, Sacred Heart Prep grad Sara Choy (2018) won both her singles match and doubles matches at St. Mary's Invitational on Friday. 
Sacred Heart Prep grad Sara Choy made her Stanford women's tennis debut at the St. Mary's Invitational in doubles competition with Niluka Madurawe on Friday, winning twice to reach the semifinals, where they will meet St. Mary's Marila Kozyreva and Aubane Ville at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Choy, who recorded a 79-1 record in singles play against high school competition, and Madurawe opened with an 8-6 victory over Cal's Alexis Nelson and Maria Smith and followed that with an 8-2 win over Pacific's Dohee Lee and Jacquie Tan.

In singles, Choy beat Washington's Ava Markham, 6-4, 6-0, and Madurawe won her match, 6-3, 6-1 over Tan.

Choy meets USF's Emily Maxfield following her doubles match.

Stanford's Michaela Gordon reached the consolation semifinals of the Rivera/ITA All-American Championships and will meet Miami's Estela Perez-Somarriba at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The Cardinal doubles team of Caroline Lampl and Kimberly Yee downed LSU's Jessica Golovin and Eden Richardson, 8-5, in Friday's main draw quarterfinals and meet Oklahoma State's Sofia Blanco and Lisa Marie Rioux at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
