Sacred Heart Prep took advantage of a walk and a hit batsman to score two early runs without benefit of a hit and went on to beat host Terra Nova, 5-1, in a Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division game Wednesday.

Angelo Tonas gave up an early run and then held the Tigers scoreless the rest of the way as he struck out six and walked two in keeping the Gators (19-5, 9-2) at the top of the league standings with three games to play.

Sacred Heart Prep holds a one-game lead over Hillsdale (16-6, 8-3), which scored twice on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat Burlingame on Wednesday.

Carlmont (12-10, 7-3) is 1 1/2 games behind the Gators with four to play. Terra Nova (10-12, 5-6) follows.

Jack FitzSimons led off with a walk and Jack Donnelly was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and FitzSimons scored on Yianni Gardner's groundout. John McGrory's infield grounder plated the second run.

Tonas gave up a double and a single in the bottom of the first and then kept Terra Nova off the scoreboard. He retired 10 of the next 11 hitters he faced after the run scored.

The first two Tigers reached base in the seventh on a walk and a single. Tonas got a fly out, a foul out and strikeout to end it.

The Gators added a single run in the second when Eric DeBrine doubled and scored on Ryan Freire's single. In the third, Donnelly singled and eventually scored on a passed ball. Donnelly also scored on a catcher's error in the fifth.

Sacred Heart Prep hosts Terra Nova at 4 p.m. Friday.
