From Awareness to Action

Each year, the Sacred Heart community joins together in response to need emerging in our local communities, as well as in those arising in the global Sacred Heart network. In many cases, these efforts represent an annual campaign, and the partnership between SHS and benefiting community service organization is longstanding. A growing number of campaigns, however, are student-initiated and driven and reflect an active and deep connection to the school’s Goals and Criteria/educational philosophy—in particular, its Goal III “a social awareness which impels to action.”

 
A selection of drives undertaken by the SHS community during the 2017 fall and holiday season include:

• Hotdogs for Hurricanes, supporting Sacred Heart schools in Houston and Miami affected by natural disaster;
• Sandwiches on Sundays, supporting Street Life Ministries (Street Church);
• PSK Winter Coat Drive, supporting local children and families in need;
• Uganda Giving Tree, supporting students in our sister school in Uganda;
• Gift Card Collection, supporting Catholic Worker House/Casa Juan Diego
• Valpo Bowl & Valpo 5K Fun Run, supporting the Peninsula Bridge Program;
• Halloween Costumes, Clothing & Goods Drive, supporting victims of the Santa Rosa/Napa Wildfires
• Annual Holiday Turkey & Food Drive, supporting local families-in-need;  
• SHP Bicycle Collection, for Siena Youth Center;
• GR 7 Socks + Toiletries Drive, supporting Street Life Ministries;
• SHP Giving Tree, supporting 40 local families at Christmas;
• PSK Winter Accessory Drive, supporting St. Francis Center;
• GR 1-3 Holiday Toy Drive, for St. Francis Center;
• GR 6 Teacher Appreciation Project, supporting faculty at Los Robles Elementary in East Palo Alto;
