SHS Thanksgiving Food Drive Serves Local Families in Need

Alumni organizes Thanksgiving food collection for delivery to needy families.

For the last 20-plus years, Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS), has partnered with St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) during Thanksgiving. SVdP connects families in our community with support during difficult times. The SHS faculty, staff, preschool, kindergarten, lower and middle school students brought in assigned food items to make 40 Thanksgiving meal baskets.

Last week also marked the fifth year SHS alumni have worked on charity projects leading up to Thanksgiving. Projects have ranged from serving families staying at Stanford’s Ronald McDonald House, to packaging olive oil produced on the school campus, to this year’s project – helping prepare the Thanksgiving food collection for delivery to needy families.

For the past two years, the alumni service day has fallen on National Philanthropy Day. This holiday season, Philanthropy Day participants ranged from graduates of the 1990s to graduates of the 2000s, and even a few future graduates of SHS.

Service is at the core of SHS’s goals, aligning with Goal III: A social awareness which impels to action. The philanthropic activities occurring across campus for Thanksgiving are just one small part of ongoing service work that happens year round on the SHS campus and in the greater community. Goal III instills in students and SHS community members a life-long commitment to serving others. For more information on how you can get involved in charity activities at SHS, click here.
