Local Coaches, Administrators Honored at State Banquet

Administrators and coaches from the CCS walked away with 17 of a possible 42 honors. Of those 17, eight came from four local high schools.
Menlo-Atherton, the most successful school in the Peninsula Athletic League the past decade or so, may need to open another section to its trophy case with its four additional honors.
Palo Alto, a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League contender in most sports, was honored twice. Sacred Heart and Menlo School, who compete in the West Bay Athletic League in most sports, each brought back an honor.
It was a night to celebrate another successful school year of ultimate triumph of individuals who took on an athletic endeavor in addition to their academic schedule.

Menlo-Atherton High's Pam Wimberly wielded a firm but fair hand as the Bears' girls basketball coach for 42 years. Wimberly won over 600 games but she made a deeper impact on the lives of the young women in her care.
Wimberly was officially inducted into the state's Hall of Fame on Saturday night for her contributions not only as a basketball coach, but softball coach and Athletic Director as well.
Adhir Ravipati is one of the younger coaches at Menlo-Atherton and has already shown an uncanny ability to set high standards and helping his players surpass them.
He was named Northern California Football Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to their first appearance in the state championship game.
This area has the great fortune of having some of the top athletic directors that could be found anywhere. The roles of A.D.'s have evolved into a multi-faceted position and it takes a unique person to fill it.
M-A's boys AD Steven Kryger and girls AD Paul Snow, both named NorCal Athletic Director of the Year, are most certainly among the unique class of individuals who can take on any role needed, whether it is cheerleader or arbitrating.

Menlo School girls volleyball coach Marco Paglialunga didn't do too bad as a rookie coach. All he did was lead the Knights to the state Division V title after navigating through the WBAL, which added defending state champion Notre Dame-Belmont for 2016-17.
Paglialuna was honored as NorCal's Rookie Coach of the Year.
At last year's awards banquet, the CCS earned five overall awards, none of them going to a local school. It happens; these things tend to go in cycles. The eight local honorees, though, have already set the stage for another outstanding season.
