SHS Hosts 119th Commencement Ceremony
The 156-member Class of 2017 will attend 71 different post-secondary institutions
Sacred Heart Preparatory graduated 156 students on Friday, May 26 at the 119th commencement ceremony at Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton.
Representing the largest class to ever graduate from SHS, the Class of 2017’s valedictorian is Grace Zdeblick and she will enroll at Yale University in the fall. SHP’s salutatorian is Gordon Holterman and he will attend Stanford University.
The recipients of the Blue Ribbons, the highest honor Sacred Heart Prep bestows upon a senior at graduation for embodying the Goals and Criteria of a Sacred Heart Education, were: Goal I: A personal and active faith in God – Julia Basnage and Katherine Harrison; Goal II: A deep respect for intellectual values –Connor Johnston, Natalie Novitsky and Isabella Rhyu; Goal III: A social awareness which impels to action – Dominique Reese and Alfonso Siam; Goal IV: The building of community as a Christian value – Isoa Moimoi and Hayley Pietro; and Goal V: Personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom – Karina Cabrera, Oscar Delgado and Vincent Xie.
The Dark Blue Ribbons were presented to Sophie Amid-Hozour, Jack Pleasants and Alexa Thomson for exemplifying all five Goals and Criteria.
Graduates from the Class of 2017 will attend 71 different post-secondary institutions. Seventy-three will attend colleges in California, 83 are enrolling in institutions out of state and 28 graduates will attend Catholic colleges. Nineteen students earned recognition by the National Merit Scholarship program, 16 have committed to play collegiate athletics and 23 members of the graduating class have been on the Sacred Heart campus for 12 or more years.
