Fridays with Fiona – A Conversation with Senior John Claude Marco

Today I interviewed John Claude Marco - he is not a teacher!  He is as senior who is graduating.  He has been at Sacred Heart since preschool - a long time!  Sit back, relax and please enjoy!

FIONA:  Congratulations on your upcoming graduation.  I heard that you went to SHS since preschool – what’s your best memory?

JOHN CLAUDE:  I am an athlete so I really loved the 8th Grade versus Faculty Basketball Game.  That’s one of my best memories because I had all my friends with me playing basketball. I really enjoyed that.

FIONA:  Are any of your teachers from PSK (Preschool & Kindergarten) still here?

JOHN CLAUDE:  My teacher from kindergarten, Ms. DeZutti, is still here.  I just sang with her actually at the Kindergarten Espacio.

FIONA:  Who was your favorite teacher and what was your favorite class?

JOHN CLAUDE:  I have two favorite teachers.  One was my fifth grade teacher, Ms. Rayme, and one was my freshman English teacher, Ms. Picetti.  My favorite class would probably be math – I’m a math guy.

FIONA:  What will you miss most about SHS?

JOHN CLAUDE:  I’ll will miss the community the most and my friends.  The community is the number one thing I will miss.

FIONA:  How did you get interested in water polo?

JOHN CLAUDE:  So my brother decided to play water polo and I saw him play and thought, “Hey, I’m going to try this out.” Ever since then I have played.

FIONA:  How did you balance sports and schoolwork?

JOHN CLAUDE:  That was really tough, but I learned important time management skills. I would go to school, then right after go to practice and then as soon as I got home I wouldn’t watch TV or play basketball with my brother outside.  I would just go straight and do my homework, eat dinner and go to bed.

FIONA:  What’s the funniest thing that happened while you were at SHS?

JOHN CLAUDE:  During Spirit Week I was playing against my brother in one of the games and we were pretty competitive against each other. At one point he kind of pushed me into the crowd and it was funny because it was a brother-to-brother kind of thing.

FIONA:  What are you most excited for in college?

JOHN CLAUDE:  I’m excited to play water polo in college. I’m going to Pepperdine down in Malibu and it’s always going to be sunny there! I’m definitely excited to major in business and learn as much as I can. I’m also excited to become more independent and more of an adult.

FIONA:  Thank you for your time, John Claude.

JOHN CLAUDE:  Thank you so much for having me!
