SHP to Send 16 Student-Athletes to Play in College

Gators to represent 15 different universities at the next level

For the 11th consecutive year, Sacred Heart Prep will send 12 or more student-athletes to play at the intercollegiate ranks. The Class of 2017 boasts 16 representing eight different sports.

"The solid work ethic both in the classroom and on the field is quite evident in this collection of 2017 Sacred Heart Prep graduates,” said SHP Assistant Principal-Athletics Frank Rodriguez of the student-athletes who will be continuing their athletic pursuits next year in college.

After making their mark and winning four consecutive boys and girls Central Coast Section titles, six water polo players are headed to the next level. On the boys’ side, CJ Box, Jackson Enright and John Claude Marco will compete for Claremont McKenna College, Harvard University and Pepperdine University, respectively. For the girls, the University of Michigan, Princeton University and Arizona State University will welcome Maddy Johnston, Maddie Pendolino and Layla Waters, respectively.

Lacrosse players Cameron Gordon and David Peterson are slated to play on opposite coasts, as Gordon will go to nearby UC Berkeley to join the women’s team and Peterson has enrolled at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania to play for the men’s side.

Following the Gators’ 2017 soccer league title run, McKenna Angotti heads to Northwestern to join the defending Big 10 champion women’s soccer team. On the men’s side, soccer players Peter Love and Joshua Morgan will lace up for the University of Rochester and Florida Gulf Coast University, respectively.

Rounding out SHP’s college-bound student-athletes are: rower Trey Holterman (Stanford University), swimmer Emily Howard (Claremont McKenna College), cross country and track runner Graham MacFarquhar (Carnegie Mellon University), softball player Lagi Pakola (Chapman University) and Samara Phillips will play women's volleyball at Amherst University.

“We're quite proud of what they've accomplished these past four years and are excited to see how they all make their mark at the next level,” concluded Rodriguez.
