Castilleja’s Natalie Tuck set a meet record in the 100 breast and also won the 200 free by over eight seconds but Sacred Heart Prep won all three relays in winning its eighth consecutive West Bay Athletic League girls swimming championship on Saturday in its home pool. SHP totaled 432 points to Castilleja’s 403. Menlo School placed third wit 229.

The Sacred Heart Prep boys also won their eighth straight WBAL title, scoring 480 1/2 points. The Knights were second with 317. Priory placed fifth with 138.

Tuck, who will be swimming at Cal in the fall, went 1:03.44 in winning the 100 breast, bettering SHP grad and Stanford All-American Ally Howe’s mark from 2014 by .23 seconds. SHP sophomore Gaby Ma went 1:04.08 to finish second, .03 shy of matching Howe’s school record.

Tuck completed the 200 free in 1:52.20. Sacred Heart Prep’s Corinne Charlton touched second in 2:00.43, less than a half-second before Castilleja’s Kenzie Macdonald.

Ma won the 200 IM in 2:09.89, followed by teammate Megan Ross in 2:11.54. SH Prep’s Sloane Reinstein won the 100 free in 53.39, with teammate Matte Snow close behind in 53.57.

Castilleja made it close because they have a deep roster that matches Sacred Heart Prep’s depth. Casti combined for 17 top-eight finishes while Sacred Heart Prep combined for 15.

SH Prep outscored Castilleja by a combined 20 points in the relays. Casti placed second in both the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay and third in the 200 free relay.

Menlo’s Natalie Hildebrand won the 100 back, out-touching Castilleja’s Marie Williams 1:00.52-1:00.71. Pinewood’s Abby Liao placed third in a CCS time of 1:01.20.

SHP’s Kelly Frimel, who swam on the 200 free relay team, won the ‘B’ final of the 50 free in a CCS time of 25.52.

CJ Box was the lone individual winner for the Sacred Heart Prep boys, though the Gators won two relays and placed among the top eight in every event. Box went 4:42.80 to win the 500 free.

Menlo’s Scott Little was a double winner and a part of the Knights’ winning 200 medley relay.

Little went 21.58 in winning the 50 free and 47.53 in the 100 free. Sacred Heart Prep’s Luke Rohlen finished second in both races.

The 50 free was particularly entertaining as the top five finishers were less than a second apart. And yes, with all five representing SHP or Menlo, it did raise the entertainment value.

Rohlen went 33.08, SHP’s Larsen Weigle was right behind in 22.10, Menlo’s Sam Untrecht went 22.34 and SHP’s Andrew Churukian finished in 22.49.

Rohlen, Weigle and Churukian swam on both free relays, with Alex Tsotadze completing the 200 lineup and Michael Sonsini joining the 400.

The Central Coast Section meet will be held at the historic Santa Clara International Swim Center, with girls diving competition (9 a.m.) and swimming prelims (2:30 p.m.) on Friday. The boys diving (9 a.m.) and swimming finals (2:30 p.m.) take place Saturday.

Gunn is the defending boys champion and Palo Alto is the defending girls champion.
