The Central Coast Section is full of all-star high school coaches and administrators and one needs to look no further than Palo Alto, Menlo Park or Atherton.

When the California Coaches Association assembles for its annual Awards banquet in Sacramento on June 17, it's likely to take on the feel of a neighborhood barbecue. That's because no fewer than eight men and women from the area are scheduled to be honored, and several are eligible to receive state coaching honors.

Other spring coaches were singled out for Central Coast Section recognition and another was named CCS Coach of the Year.

Menlo-Atherton High leads the way with Pam Wimberly, a long-time girls basketball coach at the school who will be honored for her induction into the state coaches Hall of Fame.

M-A's Steve Kryger and Paul Snow, boys athletic director and girls athletic director respectively, are Northern California Athletic Directors of the Year and Adhir Ravipati is the NorCal football Coach of the Year after leading the Bears to their first appearance in a state championship game in the fall.

Palo Alto's Danny Dye was named the girls swimming Coach of the Year and Vikings boys lacrosse coach Daniel Shelton earned the honor in his sport.

Jon Burke, who led the Sacred Heart Prep girls water polo team to its 10th consecutive CCS title in the fall, is also a Coach of the Year.

Menlo School's Marco Paglialunga was named girls Rookie Coach of the Year after leading the Knights to their first ever state title in volleyball last December.

The criteria for the honor includes career success, recent completed success, and leadership roles in the sport.

In addition, Sacred Heart Prep boys swimming coach Kevin Morris was named a CCS Spring Honor Coach and Palo Alto boys basketball coach Peter Diepenbrock was recognized by Prep2Prep as the CCS Boys Coach of the Year after the Vikings reached the Northern California Regional championship game.

In total, 71 coaches, administrators, and officials from around the state will be recognized for their achievements at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Sacramento.

Festivities get underway at 6 p.m. Tickets, priced at $60 each, can be purchased through the CCA website or by contacting Northern California representative Rob Grialou, a long-time coach at El Camino High in South San Francisco at 650-341-2484.
