Overtime Goal Leads Sacred Heart Prep to Lacrosse Victory

It was only fitting that Tommy Barnds and Jack Crockett combined to score in the second overtime to lift the Sacred Heart Prep boys lacrosse team past host Redwood-Larkspur 10-9 in a nonleague match Friday.

The Gators leading scorers all season, they had combined for six of the first nine goals and two of the first four assists.

Barnds took a nifty pass from Crockett and sent the ball into the back of the cage to lift SH Prep (8-4) to its fourth consecutive victory.

The Gators host Corona del Mar-Newport Beach on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Sea Dogs (10-2) are also scheduled to play at Los Gatos and Bellarmine during the week.

Barnds led Sacred Heart Prep with five goals and one assist. Crockett added a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Cody Weibe recorded 10 saves.

Teddy Vought added a goal and an assist, Kevin Tinsley and Thomas Wine each scored a goal and Wilson Weisel added an assist.

The Sacred Heart Prep girls team also won Friday, beating visiting Castilleja 11-6 as Cam Gordon scored eight times.

In the battle of the Gators, SH Prep (4-4, 3-2) outscored Castilleja 7-2 in the second half to break open a tight contest. Allison Carter scored twice and Haley Zimits added a goal. Emma Briger made nine saves and Holly Daley recorded an assist.

For Castilleja, Anika Adzich had a goal, two assists and four draw controls. Taylor DeGroff recorded a goal and had six draw controls. Jordan Jackson added a goal and assist, Makee Anderson had a goal and Gabriella Nightingale scored twice.

Both teams continue West Bay Athletic League Foothill competition, with Castilleja hosting league-leader Menlo School (5-0, 8-2) on April 21 at 3 p.m. at El Camino Park. Sacred Heart Prep hosts Menlo-Atherton (9-3, 4-1) on April 20 at 4 p.m.

The Bears beat host St. Francis 14-10 as Annie Payne topped the scoreboard with seven goals, six in the second half, to go with seven draw controls.

Emma Easton took care of most of the scoring in the first half, netting four of the seven goals. Grace Tully added a pair of goals and Izzy Carhart also scored.

The Bears are off to Denver for a pair of nonleague games next week, playing at Regis Jesuit on Thursday and at Grandview on Saturday.

The Menlo girls beat Mitty 15-5 and the Menlo boys beat Los Gatos 15-3 on Friday.
