Sacred Heart Prep finished near the bottom of the West Bay Athletic League but that may have been a blessing in disguise now that the Gators are one of four WBAL teams still alive in the NorCal tournament.

Sacred Heart Prep extended its season by at least one more game after traveling to Sacramento and beating Foothill, 61-43, to reach the regional semifinals.

The sixth-seeded Gators (16-13) travel to No. 2 St. Joseph Notre Dame (28-5) in Alameda for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday.

The WBAL girls are currently 7-0 in NorCal play, with teams in the Open Division (Pinewood) and Division V (Eastside College Prep, Priory) along with the Division IV Gators.

Sacred Heart Prep settled in on defense after an 18-18 first quarter. The Mustangs were limited to 25 points the rest of the way.

Freshman Charlotte Levison led the Gators with 26 points while Zoe Zaharias added 12. It was team defense that laid the foundation for the victory though.

The Pilots and Gators have two common opponents in Pinewood and Eastside College Prep. St. Joseph's lost to Pinewood by 17 and to Eastside by 20. SHP lost to Pinewood by an average of 30 point and by an average of 22 to Eastside.

Top seed Eastside College Prep (20-8) advanced with a 72-32 victory over visiting Urban-San Francisco and will host No. 4 Argonaut-Jackson (27-4) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Ripon Christian is a common opponent. The Mustangs won, 61-44 and 55-29, while Eastside trounced Ripon, 73-15, in the first round of the NorCals.

Argonaut has also played Foothill-Sacramento, and lost by 13. The Mustangs also own a nine-point victory over Union Mine and a 10-point win over Capital Christian.

Priory (20-9) beat Capital Christian, 56-43, behind 14 points and 12 rebounds from Tatiana Reese and another nine point and 10 rebounds from Ila Lane.

Gabby Ruiz and Lala Niu each scored 12 points for Priory, which hosts Mt. Shasta (26-5) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Hamilton is a common opponent, with the Panthers winning, 67-19, in the first round of the NorCal tournament. Mt. Shasta beat Hamilton, 67-34, the previous week and 55-14 during the regular season.
