Home or away, it was a winning day for SH Prep

The SHP Football team defeated Burlingame 17-0 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Teddy Purcell stepped into the quarterback void created by a transfer last season and enjoyed a fruitful year. He’s taking it to a whole new level this time around.
The Sacred Heart Prep senior has the Gators unbeaten after two games of this shortened season and he’s already nearing 500 passing yards with a completion rate of 80 percent.
Purcell threw for 236 unofficial yards in Sacred Heart Prep’s 17-0 Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division victory over visiting Burlingame on Saturday afternoon and he utilized his full arsenal of receivers, completing passes to nine different teammates.
His only touchdown pass of the contest was a 20-yard connection with Paul Barton, though he had two other touchdowns called back because of penalties.
Barton, who averaged nearly 15 yards a catch, served as Purcell’s favorite receiver of the day. He caught six passes for 86 yards.
Jake York and Will Mackie were on the receiving end of four passes each for a combined total of 73 yards.
Following Barton’s touchdown reception, the game was essentially turned over to the defense, which came up with a couple of key plays to keep the Panthers out of the end zone.
Sophomore Carter Shaw helped stop Burlingame by alertly falling on a loose ball on the Gators’ seven-yard line. Alec Tonas ended another Panthers drive with an interception.
In addition to Barton, York and Mackie, Purcell also connected with Cav Williams, Beck Anderson, Andrew Latu, William Van Dyke, Zach Friere and Luke Renert.
Sacred Heart Prep (2-0) travels to Sunnyvale for a league game against The King’s Academy on Friday night.
