Teacher to Join Climate Advisory Council

SHP science teacher Mike Judge’s expertise in climate change sought
SHP science teacher Mike Judge has been tapped to join an advisory council for the Kennebunkport Climate Initiative (KCI), a non-profit that seeks to educate youth about environmental issues. KCI is based in New England but also receives advisory support from individuals in the Bay Area and elsewhere. Judge’s expertise in climate change was sought out by KCI after a Sacred Heart family connected him to the organization.

“[KCI] is oriented toward considering scales of solutions, so they’re definitely engaging with global solutions, but they’re also particularly focused on empowering young people to understand their own home region, and what solutions are applicable there,” said Judge.

In Judge’s role, he works alongside eight other advisory council members throughout the year to provide feedback and new perspectives on KCI’s various programs and plans. Other members include top scientists, educators, business and tech leaders, and a congressperson.

“It’s exciting to see this kind of work being done on a large scale,” said Judge. “I’m thrilled to bring it back to Sacred Heart—to make the connection between what this organization is doing and what our campus is doing, to have that back-and-forth and build an interconnected relationship.”
