NINETEEN SHP STUDENT-ATHLETES COMMIT TO COLLEGIATE SPORTS

Sacred Heart Prep is proud to announce that nineteen senior student-athletes from the 2020 class will continue their athletic and academic careers at the college level. The Class of 2020 includes thirteen Division I athletes, two Division II athletes, four Division III athletes and cover a wide offering of different athletic interests.

 

“This class of 2020 has been a very special group which has worked diligently both in and out of the classroom in unprecedented conditions to continue the pursuit of their athletic dreams in college” said SHP Assistant Principal for Athletics Frank Rodriguez.

Nearly one-quarter of the 2020 class comes from the 2019 CCS Division II semifinalist football team. PAL CO-Most Valuable Player Tevita Moimoi will hit the gridiron next fall in Hanover, NH and join the reigning Ivy League Champion Dartmouth College Big Green. Two-time PAL Special Teams Player of the Year Ronan Donnelly will bring his strong leg across the Bay to kick for the California Golden Bears, while Charlie Selna will travel to South Bend to play for Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. PAL First Team selection Everett Banks, who played only one year of high school football, will become a Morehouse College Maroon Tiger. 

 

Annabel Facey, who led the SHP girls water polo team to WCAL and CCS Open Division titles in 2019, will continue her water polo career at Harvard, while her aquatics teammate, Sloane Reinstein, will head to Athens, Georgia to join the University of Georgia Bulldogs swim team. Ryan Kim of the boys’ swim team will become a Brown Bear, while teammate Will Connolly will swim for the 2020 Big East runner-up Georgetown Hoyas. 

 

WBAL girls’ volleyball Player of the Year Elena Radeff will head just a few miles south to join the Santa Clara University Broncos women’s volleyball team. Kennedy Anderson of the 2020 NorCal Quarterfinalist girls’ varsity basketball team will join Radeff at Santa Clara as a member of the Broncos’ women’s basketball program. Anderson’s teammates Denise Stine and Charlotte Levison will continue their basketball careers at Clark Atlanta University and the University of Denver, respectively. On the boys’ basketball side, WBAL First Team performer Jai Deshpande will bring his high-flying action to Whitman College.

 

Liam Johnson, the 2020 WBAL Forward of the Year, brings the Santa Clara University-count to three as he becomes member of the Bronco’s men’s soccer team. Johnson’s teammate and WBAL 2020 Defender of the Year, Kevin Box, will continue his soccer career with the 2019 SCIAC Champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags. 

 

Former WBAL girls’ soccer Defender of the Year and WBAL girl’s lacrosse Defender of the Year/Under Armour Lacrosse All-American, Sasha Bellack, becomes a member of the Tufts University women’s lacrosse program. On the boys’ side, Alexander Bean (rated one of the top 25 high school lacrosse players in the country by uslaxmagazine.com) will join the 2019 Patriot League Champion Loyola-Maryland men’s lacrosse team. 

 

Sam Maxwell will join forces with 2019 graduate Max Cluss on the Middlebury College track and field team. 

 

Finally, Finn O’Kelly will become the first Gator golfer to compete at the collegiate level since Shane Snow in 2016, when he heads south to become a member of the UC Santa Barbara men’s golf team. 

 

“This is an amazing collection of high school student athletes who will be missed but more importantly, remembered.  I’m excited for what the future may hold for each and every one of them” concluded Rodriguez.
