STANFORD, Calif. -Sara Choyprovided her first career clincher to secure No. 1 Stanford's 4-0 shutout of USF in its season opener on Saturday afternoon at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal (1-0) is hosting ITA Kick-Off Weekend and will face Washington State on Sunday with the winner advancing to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 7-10 in Chicago, Illinois.
Choy, who finished 13-4 last year as a freshman, was appearing in only her fourth career dual and second in a home match. Choy made Saturday's match official with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 spot.
Emma Higuchi(6-2, 6-0) andMichaela Gordon(6-0, 6-3) added singles wins for the Cardinal, which has won 63 of its last 66 matches on The Farm.
Stanford captured the doubles point with a pair of identical 6-2 victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions.
