Davidson (SHP '16) scores 1st professional goal

Sacred Heart Prep grad Tierna Davidson, also a Stanford product, scored for the Chicago Red Stars (9-7-2) yesterday, her first career professional goal.

Former Stanford standout Chioma Ubogagu recorded a goal and assist to help the visiting Orlando Pride beat the Chicago Red Stars 2-1 in a National Women's Soccer League contest Wednesday.

Sacred Heart Prep grad Tierna Davidson, also a Stanford product, scored for the Red Stars (9-7-2), her first career professional goal.

Davidson, who left Stanford a year early, was drafted in the first round by the second-place Red Stars, who play at the Portland Thorns FC at noon Sunday.

Ubogagu, who helped Stanford win a national title as a freshman in 2011, assisted on Rachel Hill's goal in the first half and then took a pass from Hill and used her left foot to get it into the far corner.

The Pride (4-11-2) travel to Audi Stadium in Washington D.C. to take on the Spirit at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Davidson took her shot from the top of the penalty box and just got it through inside the far post.

Olympic gold medalist and Cardinal alum Nicole Barnhart recorded the shutout in Utah Royals FC scoreless draw with the Spirit on Wednesday. Barnhart faced 18 shots and was credited with a pair of saves.

Former Stanford great and World Cup champion Christen Press got off three shots, two on goal, for the Royals. Cardinal alum Lo'eau LaBonta also plays for Utah.

Former Cardinal All-Americans Andi Sullivan and Jordan DiBiasi combined to take five shots for Washington.
