Greg Hook (SHP '10) Hired As New Strength & Conditioning Coach

Pomona-Pitzer Athletics
CLAREMONT, CA. – Pomona-Pitzer Athletics is proud to announce the hiring of Greg Hook to become the first full-time strength and conditioning coach in program history.

Having worked with the Sagehens the last two years, Hook will be further committed to helping the student-athletes meet their fitness goals and excel in their respective sports.

"Greg has already been an invaluable member of our department for a couple years, so we are excited that he has earned the opportunity to be the first full-time strength and conditioning coach for Pomona-Pitzer Athletics," said Interim Athletic Director Jennifer Scanlon. "He has a proven track record of success in athlete development and making our teams better. It's also clear that he takes true pride in being a Sagehen alum and a member of our department. He is well-positioned to be successful stepping into this full-time role and be a leader in Pomona-Pitzer Athletics exciting future."

Hook currently holds a USATF Level 2 Certification in the sprints/hurdles/relays, a USTFCCCA Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification, and is recognized by the NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

"I am honored and thrilled to be named the first full-time strength and conditioning coach in Pomona-Pitzer history," said Hook. "It's every alumnus dream to come back and work at the place that gave them so many memories as a student-athlete. I can't wait to push the department forward and create more memories for our current student-athletes."

During his time at Pomona-Pitzer Athletics, Hook oversaw the strength and speed development for 12 of the 21 intercollegiate programs. He has helped administer fitness tests for the teams and held student-athletes accountable on attaining individual goals and seeing progress.  A former runner with the Sagehens, he also split time as the assistant coach of the men's and women's track & field team.

In 2017, he spent four months working in UCLA's Athletic Performance department specializing in the Olympic Sports. He worked directly with the full-time athletic performance coaches for Track & Field, Cross Country, Beach Volleyball, Soccer, Baseball, & Golf.

A native of Hillsborough, California, Hook is a graduate of Pitzer College (c/o 2014) with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Economics. As an undergraduate, he was a standout sprinter for the Sagehens earning All-SCIAC honors three times throughout his career. During his junior and senior years, he served as team captain and was named team MVP during his sophomore season. He is a member of the 2nd and 4th fastest 4x400m relay teams in school history as well as the 7th fastest relay team for the 4x100m.

"When I entered the program in 2016, we didn't have any formalized strength and conditioning placed prior," said Hook. "In my years here, we grew something special from nothing. It's awesome to be recognized for the impact strength and conditioning has made on Pomona-Pitzer athletically. I want to not only continue the work we have done currently, but also improve and enhance it moving forward."

In addition to training the student-athletes at Pomona-Pitzer, the Pitzer alum is also working towards a Masters of Science degree in Kinesiology at Texas A&M, Corpus Christi.
