Donnelly shines in heartbreaking loss to Terra Nova

Ronan Donnelly took a one-hitter into the seventh inning but ended up with a no-decision as Sacred Heart Prep dropped a frustrating 3-2 decision to Terra Nova in nine innings in a PAL Bay Division contest Wednesday.

Donnelly, who also had three hits, was solid after allowing a single in the bottom of the first. Aidan Macaluso had two hits and Alex Nissenberg drove in a run for the Gators (9-11-1, 4-5), who look to break even against the Tigers on Friday at 4 p.m. in Atherton.

Donnelly and Terra Nova starter Andrew Harkness matched zeroes through five innings. SHP broke through in the sixth when courtesy runner Yianni Gardner (for catcher Will Moldow, who walked) scored on an error. Nissenberg's two-out single gave the Gators a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Donnelly doubled with one out. Moldow followed with a single to center but Donnelly had to stay at second. Ryan Mo hit a grounder to second, who threw home to get Donnelly trying to score. Reece Lindquist was hit by a pitch to load the bases and all three runners were stranded.

In the bottom of the seventh, Donnelly struck out the leadoff hitter but that was his final out. The Tigers eventually loaded the bases and scored their first run on a walk and tied the score on a sacrifice fly.

Ezno Pollioni singled to open SHP's eighth but was erased on a double play. Alex Lim followed with a double.

Donnelly also singled to open the ninth but could get no further than second. The winning run scored on a passed ball.
